2nd July 2022 June 21 is the longest day of 2022… June 21st: Summer officially kicks off in the Northern Hemisphere, marking the longest day of the year. During the June solstice (or summer solstice) the sun reaches its highest and northernmost points in the sky. Stonehenge (Wiltshire): At summer solstice the sun rises from behind the "heel stone" and shines directly into the heart of Stonehenge. The mysterious monument of Stonehenge was thought as a symbol of unity in late Neolithic Europe. The stones are out of hard sandstone. We find the same material at the Bridestones / Dalby Forest (North Yorkshire). Even though it seems that way - there is nothing mysterioius about these fascinating rocks. The Bridestones are the remains of a sandstone "cap". Layers of hard sandstone alternating with softer calcareous layers have been eroded The result is the strange and wonderful shapes left today. They make the perfect place for Chris to photograph our dogs (thank you very much!). Here the "making of" with all the dogs, Malu and Claudia... And as it is the longest day in the year, we have plenty of time and can enjoy the longest hours of sunlight!
